Humidity Control Systems
If the humidity in your home or business is not balanced, you may experience an array of issues. While your HVAC system is designed to be a temperature and humidity controller, it may not be enough to make you truly comfortable. The solution for a lack of humidity is a humidifier and the solution for too much humidity is a…wait for it…dehumidifier.
In the winter, we often hear from customers who are experiencing a lack of humidity in the home and know that they need some sort of hvac humidity control. The lack of a humidity controller during the colder months can cause dry, cracked skin on humans and pets, in addition to warping, cracking, and other damage to household furnishings and fixtures. In these situations, we install a humidifier to balance the moisture in the home.
A heat pump does not heat air as much as, say, a furnace, so if you have a heat pump, you very well may have enough humidity in your home. Furnaces, boilers, and wood stoves heat the air more than a heat pump, so if you have one of these in your home or office, you may experience more effects from low humidity. However, some people experience ill effects from very low humidity, regardless of the heating system.
Benefits of adding a humidifier include:
Adding humidity in the winter will also help those with allergies, asthma, and skin conditions, and decrease the incidence of colds and flu.
Humidifiers are low maintenance, typically requiring the media pad (which is very inexpensive) to be changed once a year and some units may require an annual cartridge replacement (a bit more expensive).
On the opposite end of things, in the summer, excess moisture in the home can lead to mold, allergens, musty odors, mildew, and warping furniture and floors…none of which we want in our living spaces. To combat these evils, we commonly install a whole house dehumidifier.
Benefits of a whole house dehumidifier include:
If your air conditioner just can’t handle the levels of humidity you are experiencing in your home, adding a dehumidifier will boost your air conditioner’s efficiency and effectiveness.
We often have customers with concerns about the maintenance commitment that comes with a whole house dehumidifier. The commercial-grade products we install have a dedicated drain, eliminating the need to empty or change water trays. Dehumidifiers also often have a washable filter that will need to be rinsed out once or twice a year.

Interested in a humidity control system installation?
You may think of Mode as a heating and cooling company, but the reason our name is Mode Comfort & Air Quality is because, of course, we do heating and air conditioning, but we also specialize in other services to make the air in your home healthier and more comfortable.
Most people are comfortable at 40%-60% humidity. If the humidity in your home or office is below or above that, you may want to consider a humidity control system.
